Finding out a celebrity’s net worth feels like an American pastime.

Whether it’s wondering how much Will Ferrell is worthwhile watching Elf or Anchorman, or Googling Peyton Manning’s net worth while rewatching the NFL highlights, or checking in on Jimmy Fallon while watching late-night TV – something is captivating about looking up someone’s net worth.

However, for some reason, few of us know what our own net worth is and how that stacks up against the average American.

According to the Federal Reserve and its Survey of Consumer Finances, in 2019, the average American family’s net worth was $746,820.
