How to Overcome a Challenge: An Example in Business

November 27, 2019 By Jeff Wiener - The Kickass Entrepreneur

Who would have thought that one of my favorite employees resigning would be one of the best leadership lessons of my career? Not me, but it gave me the opportunity to overcome a challenge that would eventually lead to me quadrupling profits and selling my business!

Let me explain.

I started my small business fresh out of college in 1991 at the age of 23.

Other than a three-month gig, I had never really worked for anyone or had a formal job. I’ve been self-employed my entire life, and for the most part, the leadership lessons I’ve learned over the years was through “on-the-job” training.

Nothing gets the adrenaline going like talking about, wait for it, personal finance tips! What a great discussion topic, especially for the holidays. Second only to talking politics.

Sarcasm aside… talking personal finances should be more commonplace. Maybe less of us would be in credit card debt, or using low interest savings accounts, or not investing at all, if we just opened up and talked finances once in awhile.

Robo-Advisors: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Pros and Cons)

November 20, 2019 By Kevin | Just Start Investing

For those of you going through the investor bootcamp, welcome to your next lesson robo-advisors! In the previous lesson, you learned all about retirement accounts. Today, you’ll be learning how to take the investing easy road with robo-advisors.

Robo-advisors might not be as inherently exciting as the 1966 Western Classic starring Clint Eastwood, but they are certainly more modern. 42 years after the debut of this Eastwood blockbuster, the first Robo-Advisor came onto the scene. And 11 years after that, we’re stealing the title of that movie classic to create our own Hollywood film (article), starring Robo-Advisors Pros and Cons.

So grab your popcorn, fill up your 48oz cup of soda, and silence your cell phones – we’re embarking on a journey that every modern investor should complete.

Advantages of Credit Cards and Why You Need One

November 17, 2019 By Kevin | Just Start Investing

When used responsibly, the advantages of credit cards are nearly endless. In fact, credit cards are actually one of my favorite personal finance topics to talk about because of all the great benefits they offer.

Credit cards are one of those things that get a bad reputation because of the horror stories you hear about consumers racking up insurmountable amounts of credit card debt. Don’t get me wrong, those horror stories are real and scary, but it’s also fairly easy to avoid getting caught in a bad situation.

When you use a credit card the right way, you can take advantage of all the perks and rewards that they offer.

Using it the right way really just means paying it back on time and in full every month. You’ll hear me say that a few times, because, well, it’s just that important.

Before diving in, we’ll level set on what defines a credit card. If you’re already an expert, go ahead and skip to the next section.

The Cost of Car Maintenance: 9 Ways to Lower Your Expenses

November 10, 2019 By Derek from The Money Family

If you are like most Americans you probably have a car, or even two, sitting in your garage at home. And, not surprisingly, the cost of maintenance on your car(s) is likely not cheap either.

There has been plenty written about the rapidly rising costs of cars and the maintenance associated with them. Not to mention the rapidly rising (and lengthening!) loans buyers are taking on to purchase their vehicles. Both with a negative impact to consumers.

While I may not be able to convince everyone to buy a used, cost-efficient car and take public transit whenever possible. I can help you reduce the price of car ownership and lower your maintenance costs to help you save more money. Even if you do buy a brand new, luxury vehicle!

These 9 money-saving tips will help you drive more efficiently, minimize your cost at the gas pump, and reduce the dent that a car makes in your budget each month through it’s cost of maintenance. Here’s how to save some major cash on your car over the long term.
